One of the best glimmers of hope I’ve seen in the last couple of years is the resurgence of grassroots organizations around the country. In looking at different social justice groups in Kentucky to support this year, it was exciting to see an organization formed 37 years ago boast about their energetic successes after the 2018 elections. I definitely wanted to learn more about Kentuckians for the Commonwealth after reading how they’re addressing the issues of racial justice and voting rights, as well as state-specific ones around climate change.
Kentuckians For The Commonwealth is a statewide organization working for a new balance of power and a just society. As we work together we build our strength, individually and as a group, and we find solutions to real life problems. We use direct action to challenge – and change – unfair political, economic and social systems. Our membership is open to all people who are committed to equality, democracy and non-violent change.
I also really like their mission, vision & goals for organizing. Any group that aims to “challenge and change unjust institutions” while making sure they “have fun”, sounds like one I’d like to make a donation to and get to know more about.
